Meet
theMaker

Hi! I'm Lynn

I initially took my first foray into pottery in 1999. I learned that I loved it and it felt like play. Throwing pots on the wheel brought me joy in a way other forms of art didn't. However, I simply wasn't able to pursue it at the time.

In 2015 I discovered Winter Creek Pottery and my teacher Muriel Sibley and it felt right . I had found a place to learn and explore. It was the perfect setting  in a 10 acre forest with like minded people to inspire me.

Beauty and form and nature inspire me. I have always lived in B.C. and am inspired by my surroundings.

I learned, while working in my garden with my hands in the soil, to be a partner with nature. Mother nature is the master who will take over when I have laid the foundation.

Working with clay is about finding that balance because clay is a natural foundation and a living thing.

I am also tremendously interested in anthropology and archaeology. The story of human kind through Millenia is recorded in pottery. People who lived thousands or hundreds of years ago have left us their fingerprints and stories in clay. Having worked in the broadcast industry where your product is ephemeral I love the tangible feel and practicality of pottery.

Every potter's creation is unique. I am not a production potter trying to match every piece exactly. I am evolving and so are my pieces. I hope that in a mass produced, modern world people will find pleasure in having a relationship with something I have made that is beautiful, functional and feels good in their hands. I hope the piece they choose makes them chuckle or go ahh... because of the theme or the colour or shape.
